Part 28: The Seacomers - Battle
Chapter 12 BattleThe team that will defend Ylisse against these invaders. Frederick and Lon'qu will carry Anti-Knight weaponry to boost their relatively low strength. Otherwise it's the standard equipment.
Dalton is an absolute beast relative to most of our units, especially with Outdoor Fighter giving him extra Hit/Avoid. The only one that can really double him is Chrom, Robin, and Donny with high speed support bonuses.
Commence the defense.
I will not discuss terms with a peasant; I will issue demands to all! Citizens! Soldiers! Hear my words! The Conqueror himself, Emperor Walhart, claims dominion over these lands! You will grant your new emperor your ships! You will grant him all your provender! You will grant him your loyalty and your every possession! And you will surrender this land's greatest treasure, the Fire Emblem! Do this, and your lives will be spared. Resist, and your lives are forfeit! Now, kneel! And swear fealty to the mighty Valmese Empire!
And I demand fries with that!
Without food and ships, people will starve! Would you have us all die?
...You'll do for now.
Hrrgh!
Milord, are you certain? Another war...
I've had time to ponder Ylisse's place in the world, Frederick. ...And my own.
We must stand against evil, in all its forms, or there can be no peace!
*Cherche arrives*
Might I join, sire? This may not be my country, but it is my cause.
My dear Minerva here hungers for a bite of the action as well!
Cherche is our first natural Wyvern Rider (if you didn't Second Seal one of six other characters that could make the switch) and she comes with pretty good stats. More importantly, she comes with great defense and the Hammer which will help deal more damage than most of our team against the Knights.
The left side has the most immediate problem, led by a beefy Paladin.
Nowi gets her B-Support with Gregor to work as they plan to tank the entire horse group.
Chrom helps out Frederick as they plug up half of the hole ahead with a Hammer in hand.
Cherche joins in on the blockade with Cordelia.
Donny pairs with Tharja and they get moving to the right side, boosted by Olivia who gains a level afterward.
Really wish I could get excited about Dancer levels, because that is a really good one.
Tharja waits on the edge to counter a Knight while the rest of the team waits in safety.
Frederick easily handles the first trespasser into Wall Wyvern.
Could use some speed but not like it matters much with Chrom giving a huge boost in that department.
Beast Killer is a 9 Mt, D rank Lance that deals effective damage against Beasts. This basically means the Calvary tree and a couple other classes like Griffon Riders.
Frederick dodges a Javelin. Tharja gets attacked by her planned victim.
Well, that could've gone a bit better. Like him being dead.
B-Support means Chrom is going to help out every once in a while and help Fred catch up on levels.
A couple more Cavs attack Fred, with the 2nd escaping death because Chrom missed a Dual Attack. Frederick gained B rank Axes after all those bouts.
Team Nowi tanked two Cavs safely before being attacked by their commander.
He didn't really fare that much better.
It's getting a bit crowded here, so Tharja brings out the broom.
Because she's a witch, you see.
Robin borrows her husband for a bit and electrocutes the Cavalier.
Cordelia slaps the soldier off his horse and gains a fine level.
Nowi chips the Paladin, then Lon'qu pairs with Kellam to help form a second blockade on the left side.
Lissa heals Fred and acts as a hopeful decoy for any attacks since she's sturdy enough to take the hits.
Fred borrows Kellam for a speed boost and takes out a Cavalier.
Glorious strength. And resistance for the hell of it.
Olivia dances for her fellow Feroxi, which motivates him to shore up the gap on the left. He transfers Cherche from Cordy and then switches the lead to end the turn.
Cordelia dodges a nasty blow and counters with heavy damage back.
Well, what do you know. That defense level-up saved her.
The Knight's aggressive behavior, on the other hand, ended him.
Oh come on, you're not even trying!
Wall Wyvern is sturdy AND mobile.
Team Nowi gets another victory.
Actually impressed she's managed this many levels on her starting Dragonstone.
Shameful Valmese.
Team Nowi defeats the Paladin and gets another level-up already. She got defense again, which is great because she started her grumpy "Speed? What is speed?" stage.
The Paladin gave up a Master Seal.
Oi, this enemy pack isn't getting much smaller and we still have about 33 more enemies to go.
Damnit, Tharja. I don't need this from you, too.
Go forth, Queen of Ylisse!
blarg
The left side is getting a last minute scrub.
For a someone that has Armthrift, he doesn't even have double-digit luck.
The two red-heads sweep through some soldiers. A Dance here, a heal after and it goes to the enemy.
Oh, this is too horrible to watch.
Nice first impression, though some speed would be nice in the future.
Cherche kills another Knight before our turn begins again.
Donny's so annoyed by all the fun being had that he let his pent-up rage into the nearest Knight.
Grr so angry I could just grow magic (please stop doing that)
Chrom plugs up the gap again, while Olivia and Lissa help heal the team from the initial assault.
Yay, magic! And a hell of a lot of Res. First one to hit 20 there.
Donny knocks out a couple Cavs to gain another level.
As if the level wasn't good enough, Donny leans Patience to further become an unstoppable wall.
Team Overkill is on the case!
Cherche backs up Lon'qu for strength as he takes on the Bow Knight from a safe distance up close.
Fred finishes the Bow Knight off, gains an Elixar, and gets healed by Lissa back to full health.
Chrom fills the gap so none of the middle left enemies can get through. Lon'qu, after Olivia's Dance, switches to Cherche to form Wyvern Wall #3 against the Knights.
Dragons are like Wyverns, right?
Chrom dodges a Javelin while a brave Knight steps up to take on the Wyvern Wall.
Skill? Yes. Defense? Very yes. Magic? What? That's two in a row now.
Kellam, get yourself in the gym or something. You can't kill a Knight after two Dual Strikes??
Kellam, you didn't even try
Repeat this 3 times and you get what's remains of the left enemy group.
Chrom reached 20 strength before the game was over. Miracles upon miracles.
Even a Bow Knight gets easily destroyed and doubled by Chrom. He receives a Second Seal after the battle.
Kellam kills off a weakened Knight, but the rest of the team bails and retreats back to the starting gap. Lissa rescues Team Kellam as Chrom and Donny wall off.
The first real challenge for Donny: A Paladin with a Silver Lance (Donny would still win since he doubles him). The rest of the enemies charge in on us, including Dalton.
Tharja and Nowi weaken the Paladin.
Gregor take glory (and Silver Lance).
It's really unfair how specifically designed Cherche was made for this map.
HP! Don't care about the rest. Nowi goes in front and Chrom goes unarmed so he doesn't kill everything on the map...again.
*One short massacre later*
What kind of evil super-villain name is Dalton, anyway?
Speeeeeeeeeed, come on
Tharja chips out a Javelin Cav for a good level. She gains speed and skill, the two most needed stats.
Gregor already hit 20 strength. A shame about his lack of defense, though.
Alright, we're just going to double Dalton with an effective weapon, possibly with a very likely Support Attac-
Or you could just crit right away. That works, too. Dalton drops a large Bullion.
Well with the boss out of the way, the rest is cleaning up the map so here's some level-ups.
Cordy does not care if she is to be a mistress.
Solid.
Ugh, I wanted her to gain magic but not like this....
Even Cordelia hit 20 strength. Guess they all got inspired when Chrom did it.
Too bad we don't have any bow users anymore.
Magic!!!!
That's a stretch.

Yes, but victory's come with a price...
The town is in shambles, as is my army.
This is most troubling news. Feroxi soldiers are the finest east of the long sea. If they are having trouble, we are ALL in trouble.
That's not the half of it. This was just the vanguardbut a taste of the meal yet to come.
And once it arrives, their host will wash over the whole continent in weeks. There's no way we could repel them and defend our people. It would be a slaughter.
Ylisse is no better equipped to handle an attack from the sea... Robin, what do you suggest?
Hmm... Their greatest strength is their cavalry, which puts us at a disadvantage...on land. But if we were to catch them at SEA...
But how?! Ylisse has no warships, nor does Ferox.
So we'd need aid from a kingdom that does...
You have someplace in mind, oaf?
Perhaps a land that borders the sea, with enough wealth to afford this campaign?
Plegia!
They have gold, boy! Countless ships! And more importantly, we have a fart's chance in the wind without them.
The oaf is right. ...Crude, but right. There's only one path forward.
Chrom, with you reconsider?
......
...Very well. Send a messenger and request a summit immediately. Let us pray this new king is more reasonable than their last.
Indeed.
You know, Robin... For your first time against Valmese forces, that was an impressive victory.
You and Chrom have both grown quite adept. You should be proud.

Cherche is a good starting Wyvern Rider hampered by some of the worst reclass options in the game. All the previous characters that can switch into Wyvern Rider have superior ability choices to go off of, and none of them require to stick in a class completely opposite of their fighting nature.
Official Bio: A Wyvern Rider in the service of House Virion. She was raised with simple values and likes to cook and sew, but loves her "sweet, adorable" wyvern Minerva even more. The most terrifying when angry.
